I. I. Ha ha ha ha! You gave me some. Hey, everyone. Welcome to. What are you watching? I'm Alex Withrow, and Nick is here. Don't worry. Today we're doing a 70s episode of sorts, but it is not affiliated with the New Hollywood Film Project. We had to take a little pause with that because we're planning something really fun. So we figured instead we would record a commentary for a movie we absolutely love. We have loved since it was released, and despite the onslaught of controversy that was thrown toward Licorice Pizza's way, it is a movie that we feel has lived on as what it was intended to do, which is to be a fun hangout movie. I've always called it a fun shaggy dog hangout movie. I do not think it's the type of movie that is asking a lot of its audience just to sit back, enjoy each chapter, enjoy each set piece, and have fun. And that's what we did as we recorded this. I went to LA for a weekend and we just sat in a hotel room watching one of our favorite new movies together and recording a commentary for it. It's meant to be fun. We laugh a lot. We hope you enjoy listening to it. When you hear the beep. That is when I hit play in the movie. It's the the lion is what you see first. MGM so here we go in three, two, one. Welcome. Do it Hoss, bring up the entrance. Welcome to the Licorice Pizza pod. Oh, God, I'm so excited. Are you the commentary? Damn right, I'm ready. I've been. I was born ready, I think. No, you're not, I'm not done. Are you ready for the most controversial incendiary this have been? This way. This is hilarious. If there's ever been me, never existed. I was actually going to start and say. Are you going to, laugh when he does the Japanese impression? I'm going to laugh. Yes. I am, it's it's funny. Here we go. Here she is, the great Alana Haim. The great Alana Haim always loved her. Always. What's not to love? The music already. It's just a sweet movie. It really? That's the whole thing, is what it is. You and I never. I mean, we were never on board with the controversy. I know if people listen to this pod, I, you know, like dedicated listeners, the listeners of the pod know, like we just did shampoo. Think about, like, the implication of the Carrie Fisher stuff in shampoo and versus like this. It's, you know, I mean, I get it different. They're made at different times. But I thought this was a very sweet hangout movie. That's it. It's very sweet. And I honestly really buy the love. And I also, you know, you have to recognize like this was what happened back then. Yeah. This this was the 70s. People would fall in love with their babysitters and then get married when they were of age. You think that's how this keeps going, that they get married? Well, I like to think so. Yeah, I think they stick it out. I never thought that. You don't think they stay together. I think it's just like a summer of fun. And that's kind of the thing. It's no man. This. Wow. We're star lasting. He's 15 and she. If you pay attention, it's like 28 because she accidentally slips when she says when she's talking to Bradley Cooper. Like, I'm 25 or something like that. So. Well, I think that's the fun of the ending is like, it was this like a summer of fun, little summer of love, or will they be friends forever? Will they end up being together? I don't know, I don't I like where it cuts out, you know. Oh, yeah, it's beautiful. I love running, I love all the running. I love the running. And what's wrong with the running? And you know what? If that's all this movie got made fun of for, that'd be great, because we can't shoot. Should we talk about the controversy up front? I mean, we're recording this December 2025. This came out December 2021, and within a couple weeks it was, yeah, like the most derided film, I mean, of recent memory. Like it just got completely hammered and trashed online for for two reasons. I think the, the Japanese thing robbed a lot of people the wrong way, and I think they latched on to that. And then what turned up being, I guess, a little bigger criticism was the age, the age gap. But I mean, they they have one kiss. I don't know, I just never thought it was a problem. And I don't think the implication is to take it like, whoa, so serious. And this is, you know, she's a like a group, like, cut me a fucking break here. And it's the 70s. Were just having fun and and I also think like part of the her particular conflict in the movie as a character is why am I hanging out? And she even said that to Danielle coming up, like, you think it's weird that I hang out? Guaranteed friends all the time. She's like, I don't know, like she's aware of it. She's aware that it's strange. Yeah. I mean, she still lives at home and she still lives at home. I mean, she she is a woman who has not figured it out. Yeah, she doesn't know who she is. She doesn't know what she really wants to do. And so much of this movie takes her right into so many different things. Say, well, like, see, like with the Sean Penn thing and all of that. But at the end of the day, this relationship that she's formed with this guy is her anchor. Yeah, it's authentic and she is all kind of following him around for I mean, she's like an assistant to a high school yearbook. Yeah. You know. Yeah, it's I like that. I like the kind of aimlessness within her and, you know, just going from one thing to the next. And he's got, you know, in the first eight coming up, it's got everything all figured out. And, and that's yours. And you own that. Yeah. That's your business. I mean, are you even in this scene as you were talking through it, the, the charm that he puts on. Yeah, is so magnetic. It's so sweet and it's so honest like it. Of course it's naive. And of course it's, you know, all this and that, but that's what makes it so endear. Yeah, exactly. And she and, you know, and she makes fun of them. She gives it back to him and all that. But she's, she likes it too. Yeah. She gets a kick out of this kid and I. Yeah she does. That's why she decides to go to the date and everything. And I love the here it is juxtaposition of his completely harmless charm. And you know, she's about to get slapped in the ass by her boss, like, hey, it's just a whatever. It's just a thing. And, you know, I, I appreciate that because it's she's clearly not respected at work. I'm not going to see later. Yeah, I like that. And also it's a good meet. Cute. You know, it's not easy at all because I have seen them a million times like that. Yeah. Hey. And then her face. But also we just saw a great wonder, by the way. Oh, yeah. Oh, God. He was amazing. It's stealth because you didn't even notice that. It was a wonder you didn't change locations. Exterior, interior. Like it's great. And also to point out why that's such a good idea to do it as a oner is because it sort of sets up this idea of like when, when, when a moment like that happens in your life where you meet someone, you're talking to them. It sort of just feels like you're on a cloud. Yeah. And the, the movement of not cutting and just kind of staying in there, that's good cinematography. That's a good reason to actually shoot a wonder. Absolutely. Do that feeling. And it's a great way to it's a it's very smart to put that early on because they've you know, they've proven a few things to me right away. I've never seen her act. I love her as a musician. I've certainly, you know, this is a great Philip Seymour Hoffman son. Of course it is. Never seen him act. And they nailed that opening scene. It's like, all right, cool. And you did it in one take. You were not saved by editing. It's good writing and some very good charm. I mean, you see their chemistry start to come alive, and then this is oh, this scene is so loud. I stopped breathing and, you know. Yeah, he she is. I just, she shows up and she's not happy about showing up. Yeah. She's hesitant. Like. But again, it's like you don't have anything else to do tonight. Like, no, she didn't. And that's the reason why she's here. She's like, look at her face. Like, don't talk to me. I'm here. Stop. You stop breathing. Obviously we're talking over it, but yeah, he starts breathing all heavily and again, just these really long shots like it's oh my God, just. And the lighting. She has a beautiful face that I think so many times in this movie. The lighting and the shot construction. It's the framing of this movie is so beautiful. So many times. Yes. And like like they just know how to light her. Yeah. Absolute thumbs. The breathing. Yeah. Stop. And this is all one shot again. And it's you know, not we haven't even really seen a clear view of his face talking about the lighting. She's not overly harshly lit like so much content today I yeah I love these. I'm just so glad we have PTA. We are, of course, recording this in the wake of one battle after another, which you and I both loved. This is just imagine will rank very highly in our top at the end of the year lists, and we're hoping good things for the Oscars, but I love it. So what are your plans? What are your plans? She's like, is this dude for real? And, you know, going with our our 1970s project series? Yes, this movie fits right in. Yes. Well, one, it takes place during that decade, but also it feels like a 70s movie. It really does. And so many movies that take place in that time don't. Yep. Yeah. And like, I mean, Harold and Maude is like an absolutely. You can totally feel the influence of this. And if you are one of them fans of this movie like we are, and I take it if you're listening to this podcast right now, then you are a fan of Licorice Pizza as well. And to all of this, there's magic in this movie. That's what. Yeah, that's what it is. I don't think he was going for anything necessarily profound and just thinking. Not at all. I have fun, do like a, like a time capsule type thing, but I've always called this, like, a shaggy dog hangout movie. You're going to go from one, you know, we're doing intro here, but soon enough we're going to develop like this one set piece to another, to another, or set piece or like sequence, you know, water. Now it's water bed time. Now it's yeah, all time. Now it's Bradley Cooper time. So you're always going to like this next thing. But she plays this so well and so authentically I think it's such an amazing performance on both of them. Yeah I agree and also we need to bring it up because I think it's one of the sweetest things is, you know, the history of, PTA with Philip Seymour Hoffman. Good job like that. It. Yeah, I always say Hoffman, everybody. Apparently, I can't say Philip Seymour Hoffman. I can say Dustin Hoffman. But if I run through, I go, Philip Seymour Hoffman. I have a few of those two, though. I can't remember what they are, but I'm with you. But the point is that the history of the friendship and and working artistic collaboration between PTA and Phil, it must have meant so much to both Cooper and PTA to be able to work together like this. Absolutely. I mean, literally knowing him since he was born and. Yeah, and putting him in this and then you, you know, I, I, I have complete faith in PTA, but hearing that, I'm like, okay, I think, you know, this is this was his first movie in several decades. It didn't star Walk in Phoenix or Daniel Day-Lewis. And it's like, all right, well, you know, you're going, with some cast members. And I was just hesitant, like, is this how know? Is this going to work? Like, he's his son? And it just worked so well. But again, they're not they don't give him like a tearful monologue or no, it's just fun. You know. And he, he lives in. It's so well like, he owns it so. Well. Gary, I love Gary. And I mean for really two actors who have never been in a lead type performance like this. These two feel like pros who have been doing it forever. Absolutely. I don't know much about. I know some about like, you know, the development in the making of and everything. And I think his relationship with like the, the, his mother, Donna, who's going to be showing up here in a little bit was his like third grade art teacher or something like that, you know, so that's his home connection. He's done some music videos with them, a lot of them. Yeah. And I mean, they're great. Those music videos are astounding. And you can feel it like, okay, they're probably like working on something, building up all the music, you know, the lighting. Yeah. Look at this lighting right now. Yeah. It's perfect. It's it's probably attached to the, you know, camera. And you're just going back with them again. Long takes and it looks natural to. Oh yeah. Absolutely. It doesn't look over the top. Oh God I love this. This is her real dad. This is the whole Haim family. Hey. Yeah. Who the fuck is Lisa? He's amazing in this. Yeah. He was allowed to improvise all his dialog time. Is it though? I love this guy. Who the fuck is Lisa? I just love that the dad shoot hoops on the, you know, the garage, this long? Oh, there they are. And there we are. Yeah, LSD in there. Mom. Donna. I believe that's her name. Yeah, mom. That's my mom's name. Yes, it is. Look at that wallpaper. Oh, perfect. I love SD and then look how bright the room is. Like. It's so like. Really? Yeah, I just I love it. And also the names. Yeah. Yeah, they're real names. And, you know, it could have not worked having all of them play like a family. Like you know it's oh, how hard can it be to play sisters. It could just seem like a gimmick. Yeah. But they all, you know, they pull it off so well. Well, there we go. When I showed my. Yeah, when I showed my wife the scene, she hasn't seen the full movie, but I showed her, a couple months ago because I was just watching the flick and I said, come here. And she went and I played her this scene, no real context. And she, you know, chuckled and I paused it again and I was like, what's your takeaway from that? And she's like, oh, that guy's a fucking idiot. And they're laughing at him. And I went, yeah, now would you believe that that caused, like, more controversy than any movie? The past, I don't know, ten years. And she went at it and I go, yeah. Like it's just I don't know. And also this actor is hilarious. He's hilarious and everything I've loved him. Yeah. John Michael Higgins, I believe. Yeah. It's. Yeah, it's it's. I mean it's also reflective too of like the times is like. Yeah like this type of white dude would do something like this. Absolutely. Even says not right here, but later that he doesn't speak Japanese. Oh, I don't know. I don't speak Japanese. Yeah. And so Jim Carrey, has a really good story about this, this actor they were working on. Yes man together. Okay. And you know Jim Carrey. Yeah. Brings what he brings to these movies. And he said that he's never met a crazier person in his life. Holy shit. He's like being in scenes. He's like, I didn't know what this guy was going to do. And, and he's like, in news, fantastic. But I was like, whatever you're going to do, I don't know what I'm going to do. That's great. Yeah it is. Yeah. It's just so and you see, like Cooper in the background trying not to laugh and. I don't know, I just thought again, it's like just this, color for the movie. Like, they're just adding in all these crazy, zany characters, and this guy is just like. And that's just. Yeah, he's an idiot sushi restaurant owner who. I mean, this dude probably talks like this when he's working, you know, and in the restaurant, like he's. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, you know, we're two white guys sitting so 100% sure. Exactly. We can take that. For what it's worth. Exactly. I don't think the intention was to be the most offensive thing ever. And I think that needs to be taken into account a little bit. And that's that. Also, I think people just need to lighten up a little bit. I that's one of the reasons why, you know, championed this movie and we're doing this is that it's like, it's okay. People like just lighten up and have fun. But again, I don't, all this stuff we're talking about, like anyone listening to this, I don't think has those problems, but I'm just explaining, you know, if like, new people. Yeah. Find the pod. Oh, my God, here he comes. And I'm this guy. Oh, my gosh, Skyler. I believe his name. He is kills it. I mean, God, this choice just to come and speaking you know, throwing it I never, never heard never flown spirit Yeah yeah yeah. And he just dismisses Gary. Yeah. Hey. She's somebody. She. Yeah. She is. And I forget it's, Steven Spielberg. Sutter. No, actually, that may have been the one that checked him in when they went into the yearbook like, thing for the pictures. And she's like, who's this? That may have been her. That's not her, though. Remember? We saw her open for him at the bowls, right? Yeah, but no, I don't believe that's her. I think it was the one sitting down when they let them. Yeah, yeah, I believe her comes like following suit. Outfit, turtleneck. Oh look, I love how he just goes. Yeah. Hi, class. It's about. Hey, you guys in? Been. I love that the hair. Oh, my God, it's great. Good. Back here. Good. Be in it. I mean, look at her like she is. Just like. Yeah, he loves the attention. He's presumably of age. You know, he's a little older and. Yeah, loves the attention. Loves all this. He just move it in. Yeah. Shapiro also, one of the coolest things where you kind of breeds past it. But, that scene where, Cooper and his mom were at the diner. Yeah, we find out that he can't go to this because she's busy. Yeah, he needs a chaperon. Yep. And they just cut to Tijuana and on the plane. On the plane? Yep. Again, no spoon feeding? No. Just. And you're like, all right. And now you get everything you need to know. Exactly, exactly. She's great. This is a very 1 to 1 Lucille Ball. That's who she's supposed to be. Yeah. And she really. I love it, when she hits them, when they're done. Oh, it's so great. Oh, man. Sweetheart, tune on Bears Me. Yeah. Walk right by. Yeah. Yes he does, yes he does. And it's fantastic. And her, the look on her face, she's like, oh, of course you can see exactly what I just did. Everybody. Yes of course. Or wait for a few minutes and you'll see it in the film. Just really I mean everything's just so well staged, well shot. Yeah. The oners, like, are really, really great in this. I think most of this right here is captured in. I still never understand what like just the appeal of musicals. Yeah. Musical like show. I don't know, you know, makes people happy. Brings people together. I don't know, I guess that's a. Not everything can be all sad and down. But yeah, the life of the, you know, a young actor, entrepreneur kid going all over acting. Yep. Yeah, I love that. That's. Well, it to, But yeah, you're right. That editing cut. Also, we were talking over when he was meeting with his mom. Like, their relationship is really good. Like, they have a very good relationship. It's like, yeah, it's a business. They're doing this business together. And see, and even right there, like, she's just proud to have a job to say that she's something. Yeah. No. Hahahahaha. No way. She could have been expecting that. Do you think that that was intended in, like, how do I say this? Maybe she, the actress would have known that was coming, but I don't think the character knew that was coming. Yeah, yeah, but I'm sure. Yeah. Hey, give her a little Cooper. Give her a little hit on the, you know, the little bop on the head. Hey. George or one of the three? George? Yeah. That's not even, like, a funny joke. Not even like. Oh, okay. Yeah. Bill. She's comes out hitting him. Yeah, he little shit. That. I'm coming. I'm coming to get you. How you doing? Yeah. I love him, Lance. I love what he, Oh, this is great. You know, taking off the tie, fixing the hair. But I love when, Cooper calls her. It is a I guess she picks up and she's like, can I say he's calling? And there's a little pause and goes, Lance, like that? You know. Yeah. This is another great cut. Yeah. This guy's great, too, you know, trying to keep the weight of this is some. He's like, oh, divorce. And yeah. And she is. Yep. Oh my God, you're huge. I love. Yeah. Way too big for all the other kids out there. I mean, you gotta imagine in the real spot they would cut though, right? Because he seems to be like, you know, rushing to change, I don't know, in the audition. Yeah, that's going to leave it like this. Yeah. Yeah, I love it. There's like, Gary, just do this. It'll be all right. Or this way. The long pause. No. All the silence. Yeah. The looks. Seven other ways. You still got it. Here it goes. Like. All right, all right, Cold read and a little kid anymore. Now you gotta do the acne commercials. I love cold reads. Oh, my God, still got it? Still got it. Man. Says it twice, so that to everyone. And then here it comes. Yep. Yeah. Can't do anything about that. That's why he's gotta start his whatever. His new businesses, his new venture. And that's the thing about him is it's it's always on to the next. Yep. It's it's, you know, I suppose it like asking like that question, like, why do I do everything that I do? It's, it's keep moving forward. Yeah. And create something brand new. Keep starting at 15 habits. It's so funny. It's hilarious. Oof! It's a tough beat. Man. Sorry, bud. We've all been there. Sure. Yeah. But I also love how. Yeah. Let's go home. You know, you want this at home. Let's see. It's such a it's such a it's like a such a sweet way to do it. Yeah, yeah. It is such a lived in like. Mom. What do you think? So we just do this at home, and then she. Because she's a good mom kind of senses. You, you know, you want to go home. Yeah. And, here it goes. The phone call. Eric. So this is, you know, also, it just. I love how the movie builds in moments like this, like, patient, like, this is what it would have been back then. You're calling on the, you know, the rotary phone. So, yeah, waiting and little brother is going to pick up on the other end. Listen, the relationship between these two is so great too. Yeah. It's very much like they're, they're they're brothers and friends. Yeah. Yep. Bestie. That. They. Hi. And. Yeah, you got to talk in public, like, around everyone because that's, you know, one of two phones in the house or something. Oh, yeah. That's how it was. So happy in the breathing. Cheers. It. I love how she guesses, too. Yeah, like, after a while, as she does. Right. She's like Gary, does she. Yeah, I don't remember, I think so I. Know because she calls back. Yeah. Yeah she calls back. And then I can hear someone breathing. And you know there it is. Name phone tag. Yeah. Ella gives a little nod. And they're handheld. Yeah. But the clock in the shot? Yep. Feeling each other out. Oh, it's so good. It's like, all of a sudden the tone just changes. Now. Like, you can feel it. Like the look on her face. The reason she's calling back. Yeah, I like that. Like you can get. Oh, I love the little peek from Danielle. Yeah, yeah, it can get a little, you know, serious at times or take itself more seriously. And then we just cut out and boom, right back in another, another fun time. And who's going to hang up or speak or speak? What's going to happen? I thought she said her name, so I don't think she does. Yeah, I don't think so. No, but they know. But they know what you call my house last night. Weirdo. Oh, my God, it's a riot. I remember, being a kid and working up the nerve to call on the phone. Oh, yeah. Oh, absolutely. Yeah. Couldn't send a text. Nice, nice. And then just hold this again in one chat. I love, Esther and Danielle. It's kind of subtle reactions when he says he's an atheist. Yeah. Oh, wow. Oh. Yep. It's, She looks like she's like, what's going to happen? Yeah, yeah. They know it's just like. I love it's they're going to go out and fight the driveway but then argue with they come back at it. He's like listen to be ugly. You don't bring this idiot to my house. I love it. Which leads to maybe my favorite scene in shot in the movie, which we'll get to. Vietnam. Is it earlier than 70s? No, no, I think it's supposed to be 73. Okay. Yeah. Look like. The like the panning. Yeah. And see, there's a perfect example of where the comedy. Here we go. Oh. Maybe it's. So. It is an actor I love so cheap. Look at that. Dad. Yeah. Stay out of the way, the Bob. Keep it out of it. I love that little. Well. Oh, my God, that this cutaway to her dad. You know, you think her. You think things. Oh, God, I love this. Danielle's first line. And she's like, yeah, that feels so real. You know, this, this, God, I love it. Oh, fuck off it. That whole entire exchange of her going off on SD. Yeah. And then straight to that. Danielle. But even like the shot, like the way the camera was panning, that's like the choice of doing that or like, like cutting. Yeah, exactly. Because it's sort of like she's got a question. What's your answer? Here's the answer back. I got another question. What's your answer? Damn. So we yeah, the water bet is really early because we're about a half hour in. And of course, I mean some most people a lot of people know, especially if you watch the picture credits. But the water bed salesman is going to be Mr. Leonardo DiCaprio's father. Leave. His name is George George George DiCaprio, which I think is just fantastic. He worked, you know, worked with him before. Leo. Yep. But he's really great. Just as little, I don't know. He's like a whole character. He has it all lived in. Now I have a question for you, okay. Because this is always something that's been sort of kind of confusing to me. I am sort of under the impression that this is more than just a water bed scene right here. Okay. I feel like with the way she's looking at him and like, is this a sexual situation? No, I think she's using all of her assets to try to make a sale. I think she's being flirty, and it. You know, it's just kind of her vibe. And he's clearly in this, like, you know, Jack, he's got this groovy, like, old maybe hippie vibe to him. And I think she's just supposed to be like the lady who helps make the sales kind of help a lot at one point is walking around in a bikini. That's it. But no, I don't think there's. But, you know, it's the whole sex sells thing. But no, I don't think there's any. Right. I don't think there's any insinuation of beyond just like getting the sale sexual encounter. Yeah. Nothing like that. Because then I see, like his face looks like. Or is he just excited about. I think he's excited about the idea and he's going to take it and try to sell Waterbeds. You know, he's like, all right, this is what we're going to do. And here it is, the Hollywood Palladium. Great. Long wonder going in here. One of my favorite concert venues and all the way it is. It's a great venue. I love that place. Okay. You're right. I don't think there was some. No, no, no, it's just you know, she's just being extra super charming and flirtatious just to make the sale. That's all it is. Sonny and Cher to. And we're about to come on to my, favorite shot of the entire movie. Oh, yes. Yes, when she walks up, when she walks up, Gary Valentine, John C Reilly, little cameo. That's him. You can't go through here. Just look at all this stuff that's going on in this shot. This is actually a good idea. That was the idea. That's it I got a I got an idea. Just give me your customers. We'd. Weirdos. Yeah I mean it's like there's a whole world in here. And again, this is all in one shot. It's all like, who's got an idea to sell something? Yep. There you go. Sell some bad soggy bottom. Yeah. See? And then he even took that idea of her. And now he's using it like, yeah, you're going to be like, you know, the sexy eye candy to help make these sales. Even you ever slept in a waterbed? I've never slept in one, but I guys. Yeah, like, I, I think they're terrible. Yeah. I didn't like it at all. My next door neighbor, a friend, had one grown up, and I just. I thought it was so weird. Like a really weird feeling. They were a big deal when we were younger. Yeah. They were. You, like, everyone knew someone who had one type of thing. Yep. Yeah. This is a great shot. And it's just like a complete encapsulation of the way that he sees her. Yep. Yep. She walks up. He's already got the confidence. Absolutely. Gorgeous. But look at that. That's just, Where's Lance? What a terrible name. Terrible. How do you feel? That was initially his proposed title for the movie. I never, I never thought it was going to hold. I think that was just what I don't know, he, like, called it to throw the scent off. But how do you feel about Licorice Pizza as a title? I mean, I like it. I didn't know it was, off of the actual store. Yeah. There. Yeah, there were like, Licorice Pizza stores. Record stores, like a Tower Records type deal. I don't think a lot of people knew that. And they never, like, cut to one or show one. They never say it in the movie. So it's, it's a bold title, I think, in that way. And I the when I first heard it and then I saw the movie, I still didn't know what the reference was. Yeah. So I thought it was two polar opposites. Yep. And that's I was like, oh, that's a cool title because it's sort of like exactly this reservoir Dogs both like this, kid and yes, woman and they are finding each other. So Licorice Pizza they grab when they grab him, they grab him so hard. I'm sure the sound helps with that, but they come in so hot and I love that he's going, I get outside. Who are you? What are your big. And I know that she's like, when you know, he leaves you like, what did you do? Did you kill a guy? Yeah. I mean, it doesn't look like him. Yeah. She goes running. Yep. I went teenagers. Yeah. And the music's got fucked up. Teenagers. It's a good run. Oh, yeah, it's a good run. They run and walk so much in their videos, it's like, Just for murder. He's like, what? I know these cows are crazy. I know they're just fucking manhandling and throwing them all around. I love this witness coming up. That's not him. I love the way. Well, this is just a great example of what this movie is like. Yeah. You never know where it's going to go. Yeah. And they don't necessarily mean anything. No, but it's the moments. Yeah. One day to the next year. Yeah. One moment to the next. That's. Yeah. It's. Yeah. That's what it is about that like hanging out randomness. What's going to happen. Where are we going to go. Yeah. I love that no shirts. Perfect night. Come on. Just you know. Yeah. Take the cuff off. Oh, and again, like, this is all like. Like you can see in her right there, like, how much she cares. Yeah. She's genuinely concerned and he's genuinely scared. But he's just like, like wanting to get as close to her as he can, but he can't. He's literally tied. Don't see his face. Yeah. Yeah. Great. All from the kid's perspective. Yeah. No apology. No. You're free to go. You said I love her. She's like, come on. Yep. And just. Yep. That's them. Well what do we do? Yeah, exactly. Gary. And then I love how long they hug for it and then. Yeah. The push. Yeah. Did you kill guy? Yep. There it is. I don't know. I mean, it's so sweet. It is. And what are they going to do after this? They're going to run. Yep. It's like it's a long hold to and I love that. Yeah. It that right there is communicating so much that day you know. Yeah. Means something to each other. Yeah. Because like you have because hugs man. Hugs are really like that's a big thing. Oh yeah. Like hugs can be so like intimate in that way where when you're really holding on to somebody, it says something so much different than just like, hey what's up? Yeah. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. I love this stuff. And I just love watching, you know, young and just the way that they both look at each other. Yeah. And and they're, we're losing them like, in the, in the frame. They're finding them again. And. It is fun running alongside somebody. Yeah. Especially like they're, they're running away from the police station going back you know, to the Palladium. So they like have a they have a goal. Yeah I mean it does it does absolutely. It terrible. It doesn't make anyone horny. No. Yeah. He does it because he thinks it's funny. If. Oh. Oh. There we go. It's a terrible name. Yes. I love that, though. You just does it. It's like a a bit. Yeah. Oh, this guy's great, great voice. Well, it's radio, baby. Yep. And then you could tell he like adlibs. Some stuff. So funny. Like, like watching something like this, and then, like, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. And how much the radio was commercials selling? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. And you just had it on all the time. The radio was on. Everyone was listening to the same stuff. And yeah, the commercials would be that would be huge. It was how things were sold, because you might not have had like TV commercial advertising, but you could advertise on the radio. Yeah. Or you know, people were at this stage probably not watching. You know, they're watching television typically like at night, maybe with the family and stuff. So yeah, there are commercials, but the radio is on all day, all day, all the time. Pasadena. Running to the doors didn't wow, wow. See, this stuff has always reminded me of like, Boogie Nights or Magnolia. That energy on people or, you know, going and we're pushing in and then we cutting and going going again. That Bernie's. At and again you know, one of the things we got to point out about PTA is we can catch some things like what you're talking about. Right. Like how that moment right there kind of rings true to like Boogie Nights. But it's one of those I think biggest compliments as a director is that none of his movies really feel the same. No they don't. I think there's a pretty a pretty, clear throughline to me from Boogie Nights Magnolia, just in the way they're shot and like the stylization of them. But they have the the theme and the stories don't really have anything in common. I mean, you know, the Magnolia is two days, Boogie Nights is a decade or more like time. Yeah. Yeah. No. So they're there's just these little things. But he is not someone who is. I've never heard him talk about the quote unquote auteur theory, but like, he's not a director necessarily, where if you put on one of his movies for a non movie freak. So not us, I don't think they're going to be like, oh, is that a is that a PTA movie like Wes Anderson. Yeah. Get it. You can just jump. Yeah, yeah you get it. And that's what he's going for. But yes, I really appreciate that about him that you can't necessarily tell just by the look of it. Yep. Because he's proving like you don't have to do that to be a good director yet. But he knows he knows what to do for all the scenes. Oh yeah. Like I mean and he been he lets it be what the movie needs it to be, as opposed to trying to dictate a style. Yeah, or tone to it. That would just be fitting to how other directors will do things because that's their stamp. Yeah. And it's not a bad thing. I think it's a good thing for a directors to have that stamp or style, but I just think it's amazing when you've got someone like PTA. Kubrick was the same way. You did not feel Kubrick. I mean, sometimes you did, but for the most part, you're like, these are such wildly he intentionally picked such wildly different stories to tell. Like, you know, space movie, horror movie, epic period movie. Yeah. He didn't work with similar actors over again. Yeah, exactly. War movie. You know, marriage movie. Yeah. And. Right. That is why he didn't. And that's also what PTA kind of did. He. Yeah. When he went to there Will Be Blood that he not left that old group behind. But you didn't you know, you don't see Louis Guzman in his movies, you know, stuff like that. But that's okay. It's just evolving. My lady friend. Yeah. Correct them. Damn right. Don't take that, Alana. He how long he looked at her in such like. But no, it's like, okay, business partner, you really going to disrespect me like that? I love the CEOs. I'll do anything for you, Gary. This just doesn't. Yeah. Fit the decor. Yeah. Dance. Oh, God. Jesus. H God, that, to me, is the button of it, right? That's that's the joke. That's the punchline. Of how they still try to do it yet. Yep. I was going to say. Or is that Spielberg's daughter? But I don't think it is. I think it was when she. Or is that the same girl? It's when. No, I don't know. They'll say at the end. I believe they have the people they have to. There's a credits. Oh, this is when we hear about the handjob. Gary. Mr. handjob man. God, getting those old fashions. Or trying. I think he's just trying and saying it all the time. Tiny toes. And business partners. The 15 year old. The hand man. Oof! Oh. He's not. Not. Yeah. Oh. But then now she knows. So there's. Yeah. We're going to cut to this drive, and she's kind of sizing him up like, how are you, pal? Like, I see you now. Yeah, look at that look. Yeah, like I know. Hey, Gary. Yeah? How you doing? Hell, yeah. How you doing, bud? This is. I think this scene is great sex here. It's, It's like I'm going to come and install it myself. A Ted, And she does is so good. Oh, yeah. Legs go up. Yeah. And look at him. Yes. He's like, oh, I like that. Sexier, sexier yet to do. Sounds like you just soda water bed. So clearly, the way to sell water beds in the 70s were via sex. And, you know, sexual innuendo. Yeah. That Bernie. Was like. They don't even have headboards. Yeah, I guess you say like it's. We have to get some headboard. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Kirk, I love that little brothers there, Yeah. That's so funny that he's just selling the water. Like, mattress thing. Doesn't have frame. I told you, man. Oh. All right, here we go. There we go. Favorite scene in the whole movie. The classic three no's into the phone. This is just an this is just an actress that you hire her. She is going to show up, and she's going to do something that no one expected me. No, no. I love and I love how close up the camera. Like, they pulled on her so much. And you just see everything, and she just keeps going along with it, like never calling her out. But your goddamn fucking fighter, aren't you? You're a goddamn fucking fighter, aren't you? Yeah, that's more like call from God. It's more like, stabbing someone with a pin. She's so good. And the lighting behind it. And she's so great. And Phantom Thread as well. Yeah. Getting drunk at the wedding, and they take the dress off her. I mean, she's fantastic. These one scene wonders. Seriously, you have a very Jewish nose. Oh, I. What a thing to say. Like, she's like. She's like, thinking. She's like. Yep. I could see you in this. I could see you in this. And who knows what this phone call is? I know I love. Well, I there's a funny thing where maybe it's, Peter Bogdanovich because he says, you know. Oh, sorry. Sorry, sorry. No, maybe Ryan O'Neal because it's like, wait, who's Tatum O'Neal? Yeah. Testimonials. Dad, was Ryan O'Neal. So love to Tatum. You know I love that. Three no's I said, Pierce, I was thinking of this part of the year. Paper moon, you know. Oh yeah. Yeah. So yeah I just I just love that. Yeah. But she makes so much of all of those. No. Oh yeah. Yeah. Each one is so specific. Yes. I love that she never calls her out on anything. The languages. What's that? Quick. All MacGraw. That shit's hardcore. Let me tell you, it's no fucking joke. Matt Damon is. Bourne is Jason Bourne did a lot of that style where you can grab magazine and, like, boom, hit someone. You use what you have. That was, Yeah. Here it comes. Okay, look at that. Quivering. I could see that. Look at that. Pierce. Look. Sucking. And what kind of nose of. All the languages are great. The is flat and. I love that. Bueno. Fantastico. She's, She's amazing. Yeah. Yes. Hahahahahahahaha. Well, yeah. No. Straight to it. Yeah. That scene was so good. I love it. Yeah. Her coverage is so great. The those angles that just so close where no, there's, I took an Alexander. Not an Alexander. The, the Chekhov method of acting took an acting class. And what they teach you in that is a lot is a lot of. I saw a lot of that work in there. Like when she's looking at her, there's like a piercing quality. So you sort of imagine with, like in your scene, like if, if you couldn't use your fingers, but you were to pierce somebody, how would you look at them? How would you say your line if you were to try to like, reach into their eyes and say what you're. So you felt all, oh yeah, she did that perfectly. And it doesn't have to be Pierce, but it could be something. Yeah, you're like, how am I trying to affect you right now? And I'm going to stare into your soul to to get it. Yes. And again, there's nothing more like made of this. It's just a, I don't know, one off thing. I love that she has about the younger brother. She didn't want him to be around. He's in his room. Can I touch him? Yeah, she slaps the shit out. See you tomorrow. I love that. His face. There it is. Out the door. Yeah. So, friends, you tomorrow. This is great. Yeah, I think it's weird. I love Danielle, it's so great. I love the kind of bit the, you know, the running motif of them kind of walking off and getting high together. And see, like, that's an honest answer to. Yeah. Like, no. It's like weird if you make it weird. Right. Exactly. Yeah. And yeah, it's good to show that she is aware. She's aware she ain't got nothing else really going on. At Bernie's, here we are. Circles. Just ask Sydney Sweeney. Well, I don't think many people are going to see her stuff. I'm just saying. The black lady can sell some jeans. Watch out. It's not good for your back. It's not good for your neck. It's actually the worst thing. No way. It's got to be the absolute worst. My sciatica on a waterbed. Oh my God, no way. No. If you just move like you, I feel like I would wake myself up. You're going to pop it? Sex, though, could be kind of fun on it. Well, I, I honestly think that was kind of the big selling point back in the day. Yeah. When it started, like, have you ever you ever, you know, engaged on water Congress. Yeah. On a waterbed. Give it a try. That has to be the the implication. But yeah, it's just like this novelty thing. Oh, it blows off of here. You know, I also love it. Like we've never met this young lady. She just, like, walks in, you know, walks into the movie and then is going to walk out. Yeah. To kind of stir up a little a lot of jealousy. A lot of a lot of jealousy. Yeah. We've seen him be, you know, jealous of Lance. But just like Lance, he's not going to be back in again. All contributing to the hang out vibe. Nice. Yeah. It. Hello? The way she's looking. Hi. Hi, I'm Bernice. Hi. And this is Gary. I'm the manager here. Oh, but he's like, yeah, I'll do in a minute. Fine. Oh. Well, again, one shot. Yeah. Man. And she's all weirded out like the new girl. So, like, who is that? Yeah. Oh, Kind of. You know, tough. I'm sure a lot of people may have seen this, but I think it's very, I, I've I've really enjoyed listening to what Cooper has to say about him as an actor. Like how seriously he takes. Oh, yeah. And, like, he knows he knows who he is. Right. Exactly. Was, but that he, you know, watches the master every time he shoots something because he thinks it's a perfect movie. I love that I'm so high and I love the spotlight coming in, and there's time. Oh, look at that. I love that spotlight commentating. Oh, my God. And just passing off this baton of like, now he's not really into it you know. And yeah other times he's one he would have loved to ask is that your girlfriend and be like, well yeah. Actually, you know, it's the dance man. The dance of love, a dance, a love. And yeah. And everyone just high chill on the water. Bass. Exotic luxury sleeper. Oh, I love that. She looks so fucked. She definitely looks high. Yeah. High. And mad. Is this where she leaves the disco? Kisses a guy like in the street in the bikini? Oh, yeah. Yeah, because she goes home, we get the great. Yeah. Excuse me. What the fuck? Excuse me. What the fuck? Yeah, this is what I said. It's the vacated slaves. The door. Man. She's like, I'm going to go and find out what's going on in there. Hell, no. Is he doing that and not with me? Yeah. They're always like, missing each other and missing each other, testing each other. I mean, and obviously, he's pretty clear, like his intentions are known right now. Yeah, well, I mean, I think always I think he was into her before and like. Yeah, I mean, I don't think he's he's only doing this because she's not. Yeah. Well you know he's a man of action. He's well he sure is. He's got to go. He's he's a go getter. Oh yeah. Yeah. He is a man of action. Yes he is. He's a closer Gary. Gary closes things. He's a close. She's picks a random guy. He's like, Yeah. What was that? Walks home in high heels in a bikini tuts. Oh my God, it's. You. Oh my God. That is his all timer. Oh my God I love that walking in at night. Here. Oh here we go. Nice long crossfade. Not a cut. Nice J cut with the audio there. Audio bleeding. And then we fade through. And this is a pretty direct, very obvious 1 to 1 with William Holden. You know, they gave him the same last name. Intercourse, Pennsylvania. He's so good in this. Yeah, he's just perfect. He. I mean, he knows exactly what he needs to do. And the I mean, the smoking, the drinking martinis. It it seems to me just now after, you know, one battle after another. And this he he has a lot of fun with it. Yeah, absolutely. Like Sean Penn's whole entire performance. Like in both movies, you can tell that this man is having fun. Yeah. He's specific though, like these choices are is as real and serious as it gets. But he is having a ball. Absolutely. And of course, this is a guy, you know, high prick on the other end of the epic phone call in one battle is great. Yeah. And archery, the kind of subplot is that. Of course it is. Yes, absolutely. It's, And that this he just drops, you know, he reminds me of Grace. My God. Who's great? Oh, no. Yeah. This. That. He gets it. And look at his face. It's driving into the good old tale, the cock, which was a real restaurant that was had been torn down, said, rebuild it for this a little bit. But, yeah, it was a real place. And his story about this is some of the most random when we come back and he's like, there are, you know, and he's just so into it like there are I don't even remember what he says. I'll tell you, I'll share intimacies with you. And share your most yourself. There's just so fucking serious. So serious. That's what makes until you into the scenes of divorce. It is. It's like running lines. Yeah. I love him. It, is that Rex? Damn. Blough. There is. Wow. The shot of him with the cigaret smoke in the silhouette coming up here is amazing. One of the things he says that. That's amazing. Yeah. Look at that bang! That's it. And this shit. What just happened back in the day? You know, no phones like they people. An A-list star and, you know, you just get drunk one night and do you, you can read about these crazy Hollywood stories like this. Crazy shit like this. Shiny, golden, tall, inexpensive prick. What a great line. And you son of a bitch from hell. I love that. Do you want to? Maybe we go. He knows the layout. Yeah. I love it. Yeah. This is Michael. Is. I love that. Their exact lines. I love that guy. I love he, like, preps everyone. He's like, basically, this is war game. Faces everyone. Yeah. He's like, game face fixed bayonets. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Assassin's focus, fix bayonets and see. And this is all part of the fun. Like, this is all so ridiculous. Yeah. She's sitting there with an A-list star. And I love how she's, like, playing it, like. Oh, she's she's she's getting drunker with all the martinis and also. Yeah, leaning in to make Gary a little jealous. I also think she's genuinely taken a bit, but then also genuinely confused. Yes, I agree. And then, of course, she leans into it to make Gary jealous, but. And I just love with their kids. These are children right now. We're gonna. Yeah, I love Gary's. Like, you want martinis? I can get us for martinis right now. For dessert. She has no idea what they're talking about. She's like, oh, what are we talking. No. And because we don't get to mention it, we will up coming pretty soon. But as you know, my love for Tom waits. Yes. Actor and musician. Yes, I love he's great. This season's focus. Good. It's such a good line. I look for it's us food. Yeah. What are we doing? Those those those, Prep. Oh my God. Great night for jump. Yeah. It's over. Diculous. Assassin's focus. Okay, I'll do it right now. Oh, my God, I love that. And, I mean, she's great with him. She's angry with him. Not. She's not a veteran actor at all. You know? I love it because she's like. But I'm sexy, right? Yeah. That's sexy. Oh, she wants. He he might win an Oscar this year, and we're gonna see, no, no, no, he's way too controversial. The figure for it to be a lock. And he already has two Oscars. Oh, that's. So these things factor in the good people of the cock itself. It can wait. Yeah. Go out for the jump. It's just nuts. Yeah. Leaning into it. Every goddamn one of them. What a voice. Great casting too. I just you never expected him to, like, fall right into the movie, you know? I mean, that's kind of the point, I guess, of a lot of the people. It's, Yeah. They. Plus Kirk. You're lucky. That's right. And, you know, it's just hilarious. Just all this wild shit. Thank you, thank you. I mean, imagine if you, like, in life witness something like this would be you never forget. It would be hilarious story. Yeah, but I also love how as soon as she falls off the bike, he's out of the movie. Yeah. That's it, that's it. Rainbow over a heads. Spoiler alert she doesn't get the part. Well, presumably no rainbow rides a single file also. And look at that shockingly well shots. Yeah, yeah. Until they. All the like staff is just in on it and like. Yeah, let's do it. Look at this. Okay. Jim Jarvis movie is supposed to be coming out. Yeah. That's right. Yeah. Oh, he is in it. Yeah, he's the father. Has it been did that get festival play? Has it been reviewed? I don't think so. I think it also got may have pulled I thought it was coming out in December but now I don't see any. I thought so too. Yeah. Maybe they're I don't know, maybe they'll hold it for a little bit. I mean that's fine, but I'm excited. It's I am sure it has a pretty good cast. It seems like we're going back to what Jarmusch does best. Yeah, yeah. All right. We're good. Good action. Jack. Do you remember my name? Oh, there. Nope. Oh. Broken guitar. Yeah. And he runs, which he says Daniel is going to be, so. Yeah. Oh, look at that. The smoke and the mist keep you gas. Boom. Doesn't even, you know jacks. Yeah. He's coming in hot. I love the. And I love that he falls. But, you know, he's all right. Just wasted another night at the cock. Yep. Yeah. I wouldn't have done that. Jump with the guitar. Let me tell you, man. There it is. It's like he had to still figure out if he was all right. All right, there you go. Back to the cock. What's funny. All these people are fucking driving home tonight. There's. Oh yeah. Crashed and drive home. No biggie. Yep. 70s. 70s get pulled over. Probably just slip the car up 100. No problem son. Few autographs. One of my favorite, song scenes. Needle drops. This might be my favorite in the movie, I love this. Yeah, that's the word, baby. Let me roll it. Yeah, it's a good one. And I. You know, I like that they give it a moment of, like, he could get a little fresh and then he doesn't. It's just. Yeah. It's great song. It really is. And Scott Skiles got attitude. Yeah. This whole thing is just like finding each other. Maybe getting a little mad at each other and finding each other again I love it. Well I mean I suppose also at the end of the day, if you were to take like, you know, attraction out of the mix, like these two people just get each other. Yeah. Yeah. Just let the song play out. Yes. Great. Yeah. That's his lady. Is this CGI? This shot? No way. It just looks so fluid. That hand movement. No, he's just moving his hand. And we see, like, a lot of CGI. He he's not going to use it if he doesn't have to. Bad boy. But yes. Yeah. You need consent, Gary. That's the way this works. But yeah, I mean, the whole scene is like the song, you know, song totally builds it. There and there and there and I don't. And now we're introduced to the next thing because of the, time period that we're in. Yeah, the gas crisis. That's right. I also love how she just knows all these facts about rubber. And it's like, oh, I didn't know that when I watched this movie. This movie taught me that. Like, I didn't know that. I forget what she says. Oh, there's Deep Throat. Yeah, well, I thought she just learns it because she just, like, read it. Maybe. But we don't know that. Here he is, tricky Dick. There is. Oh, wait, I think he left. And, did he resign at 72? No, he won in 72. And what, resigned in 74? Okay, yeah. So that makes sense of this being 73. No, this. Yeah. This is just great how she's like, what do you think it's made from? Idiot. Yeah, yeah. What do you think? Vinyls. Yeah. It and it's rubber. It's great because like, she'll take any reason to be mad at him. Yeah. Because it helps her. Exactly. She's putting him down. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's so totally true. She's always push and pull where? Like this smile. Right before all this started. Yeah. And then when she, when she confronts the fact that this is a young guy that doesn't know anything. Right? She's just reminded of the fact that she's hanging out with him. Yep. So she's pissed off. So she don't know that Gary. Yeah, like a lot of people don't know that. And yet just another way to knock him down. I mean, this is a big deal. His gas crisis in America, when they happen. Oh, yeah. You mentioned that like. No. Guess what that happened now. Yeah. End of the world. Yeah. Thanks, Elon. Well yeah. More running. But I love that it's they're setting up like the gas crisis. Well yeah. Well so you going to what is what are you going to do. But I love it. Cat you must wait. Had to wait forever so late out of gas or. And I'm like, baby. Fair enough. And are we, are we about to get to, y'all, the other coop? Yes, we are, because they're going to make that delivery because I guess they've closed up shop and they have, like, another delivery to do. It's kind of what it looks like. Water business. Maybe it didn't work out. Or at least he's given up this space. All right, well, before we get to it, because it's coming up straight up question for you. Just have these. What is in the back? Who do you like Bradley Cooper like in general, isn't there. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think he's perfect in everything, but yeah. Yeah I like him. I don't think is we're going to see about this. We'll see. Whatever the. Yeah, that's what it's called. Yeah. Is this thing on. Where do you rank this performance in his. I always really liked a minute because he's so keyed up. I mean, this is again, a real guy. John Peters was a very real guy. Still alive. Yeah. And movie producer indeed, with Barbra Streisand and a bit of a, ladies man, to put it politely. And, you know, in a party lot in the 70s. And I think it's a really good portrait of him, but it it's just this, like, one vibe thing. I just love it. I love how fucking angry is. How mad. And yeah, it's great. See, I didn't think you were that high up on him in this. Oh I love yeah, so do I. This is probably my second favorite performance he's ever given to be. Yes, I love it. I love when he comes back and he looks at the assistant. He's like, you blew it. You blew it, man. Oh, God, this is great. You guys. So fucking late. First day of shooting, by the way. Oh this was yep. Oh I didn't know that. Yep. Oh that's perfect. Send I love it. He's like, you're lucky she's not here. She's fucking. You think I'm bad? Are you fucking with me? Strikes me. I love that chip. I get it, I got bad. Movies. I love that it's like you don't want to get there because I get gas in the car here. So he's so intense. Yeah, it's so intense, but he's so, like, low in his volume. I know that's what I love. That. From the streets. In the streets. Like me. I really wanted him to be nominated for this. I think he's nominated for the SAG, but it's just sort of funny. I didn't see it before. Let's take it here. I think you read that. What? I love that is do it. Hezbollah? No, it is it. It's got to give me the movie that. God, that's my favorite. I love it, I love it so much. He's just a what the fuck is she? Oh, it. I love that, like Irish dressing. You can tell, but, you know. You have it. Oh, my God, I love it. Oh my God, Gary. Oh, it. On the streets from the street way. The streets. Oh, my God, it's so fucking great. I love the just harken. I see that Ferrari filled with gas. Yes. It's gonna get me to the movies on time. And it's not I love tale. I love you so much. So fucking much. Steve is great. I love the I used to work with. I think it's Julie Andrews, he says, notoriously one of the most difficult, celebrities ever. She was. Shut up. No, Julie Andrews, he's know he cuts away and he's like, I used to work for Julie Andrews. That's right, that's right. Barbara is necessarily the easiest either in her prime. But, you know, you got to fight for that. Oh, okay. Hoses, baby. Yeah, man. This would really. This would do so much damage to your house. Oh my God. Did for that long. Yeah, man. You hope Steve would find it, but. Oh yeah. This is great. Yeah. She was difficult. She was difficult. That's what they say. I love this. Take it out. When they're driving down and he's walking up like it's. Oh, my God, it's so funny. Just in his walk. He's so pissed. I was like, the footsteps are like like like they like. Yeah. Yeah. It's kind of satisfying to see the. So like some shithead get watered. What? Waterlogged. What is that? What? I don't know, you know what I mean, though? I can have a massive leak when he gets home. He sure is. Water damage. Important. Let's go. The one thing I always wonder is, like, there's a there's a it's never in the movie, but they use it for the promotional package where Bradley Cooper's got, like, these hammers or something, and he's like, in the gas station. Yeah, yeah. And we never. It's. It's not in the movie. No, but it must be some deleted scene. Probably just a little more from when he goes. Yeah, to the gas station or something. But we'll do that though. He'll use scenes and trailers. Oh. Look at that. Feathered out with the white silhouette. Look at that. He doesn't even ask, you know, he just gets right in. Whoever dare move over Gary. She did her own driving for this. She took some, training for the movie and learn how to drive this truck in reverse. Hell, yeah. She's a boss to it. She's handling that? Yeah. She said no. No. It was a fun scene in the theater, too, because it was really loud. And you could, like, hear the truck. Yeah. Oh, you really felt it. You really felt like the physics of it. I love this. What are you doing? You blew it, man. You blew it. She go. Motherfucker! He's right. It throws it to Gary. Yeah, yeah. Oh, I love it. He's I don't know, it's a great question. He asked me. Yeah. Yeah. See? Yeah. Guess. What? Yeah. That's right. He also did hair. Yeah. He did, I think a little, Warren Beatty in shampoo. There's some John Peters in there as well, I believe. Yeah. Did you did a drive? I love that. Oh, yeah. You're really good at it. I love that Gary can't do it. It's not easy. That's his nice ass car is parked on this little bridge. I love this. Yeah, I mean, there she is. To bear the burden. He starts gyrating. Oh, yeah. I love that. It's so weird there. We got. His ass right in his face. We didn't hit it at all. Gary. Gary Gary, Gary, I love that. Gary. Gary. Gary. Gary! Dude, he fucking gets out of this fucking truck, and it's got the way there. Yeah, and a gas station. He's so fucking amped. Oh, that gas of $0.40. Yeah. Yes. That's it. What does it mean? It's my fucking lunatic. He, It's your move to start going. It's not going to take him long to fill up. But you know gallon now when he's still in gas. Everybody. Well, yeah. Jesus is back to it. He already fucked up his house, man. I know you got to know. And you have enough. Gary. But, yeah, this is another just great set piece. The gas, the car, truck breaking down or losing the gas. I mean, it's it's just one one toke over the line. Yeah, that must be fun as hell for him. Oh, my God, she's she's into it too. She's. Oh, yeah. Break that glass. It just keeps going. Oh. Speaking of gas. Oh, no. It's still going. These poor kids are in the back. Where are we? I don't know. Fuck! You scared me for. Yeah, this would be no easy feat. No, this is a very, very hard truck like this in reverse. It's all mirrors, baby mirrors and angles. Yep. My, My job, my car. Job. Yes. All right, everyone, I used to work for a driverless car company, but wasn't really driverless as much as it was trying to kill us, but, we had to back it up ourselves, and, I was the worst at it. Everyone made fun of me. They're like, Nick, can you back up a car? I go up here. Ali, I can't never hit anything, though. Well, there you go. Yeah. Could never have done this. No way. Cause, I mean, your brakes work, but it is. Got it. Oh, my God, it would just be terrifying. But look at it, love. Look at that. Look at your face. Determination. Focus. Get the fuck out of the way, Gary. Yeah, I'm handling this. Gary. Can't do it. I love that, Gary. Gary. Gary. Gary Gary smells so good to Gary. Gary? Gary. Yeah, yeah. Gary, that this, like, little rumble so loud in the theater. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I love that shot. Yeah. This would be the hardest part. For kids and just hope. Come on, come on, baby, come on now. It'll start. But then the question is, when you get to the bottom of the hill. And I love that. They're like, you know, 76 is closer, like the gas station. Look, if you if you can make a right. Creeping on there it is like grand mistakes happen a lot in this gas crisis. Yeah. I just love that. Yeah. Making a left is harder, though. But it's true. Yeah. I wonder if they filmed this. Seriously. I mean, it's so dark. It's so hard to tell, right? Yeah. Better blow it. She made the right. Yeah, and couldn't get to the station. But that's okay, because everyone's alive. That's all matters. Heart, I love you. Yeah. And. How did we survive? And then I. This is great. Oh, this is fantastic. I mean, she sees, like, the immaturity really, with him and his friends. Yeah. And then John, Peter said to Peter, yeah, you can use my likeness. You can use me as a character, but you have to include my old pickup line. And he's like, what was it? He goes, I would walk up to women and say, do you like peanut butter sandwiches? That was my line. I did it all the time. Worked like a charm. So that's how the scene ends. You know, he fucking kicks that. I just I love that he, throws the trashcan through the window. Still doesn't even see her. Like, doesn't notice her. Just a love it. I know he's just throwing fucking shit in the street. It's like the boarding, he just goes, I love that. He's got his little bag, his a gas. Yeah. That's right. Doesn't even see her. Yeah. Then the two walk by. It's great. Yep. It's not really. No, no. This is our first subtle look at wax in the background. Oh, there he is. Oh, Benny. Yeah. And again, important. I'm a politician. Oh, I love that. Yeah. And here's another guy we haven't met, you know, and he's just going to come into the movie for a little bit. And it's you know me. These are my favorite types of movies. Like these people come in. They're unique and then they're gone. Yeah I love that. What? Went really in the end of the day, she should have ended up with this guy. You. And you think it's going to kind of go there and it doesn't. And I like that. Joe Wax, he was a real guy as well. Was he? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Real politician. You know, like a city council type figure in LA at the time. She's a volunteer. I'm a politician. Yeah, I love that. I'm in. What I do is important. There's a scene coming up. I think it's for that politician scene. Well, I jumped the gun, but, it's a perfect scene of, When you just break down, acting into simple, like, I want this. Yeah, because she. He wants the keys. Oh, that's right. That's how they go about fighting for it. And like, the they get, like, real and raw with each other. I think my favorite part of this whole sequence in set pieces, and we already kind of touched on it. To me, it's constantly subverting expectations because like, you think, oh, she's going to meet like this mature guy and it's going to be cool. And then when we first meet wax and he, you know, approaches her and he's like, you know, since you've come on board, I've become much more focused and stuff. And I'm like, oh, is this. Yeah. Now they're going to get together. And then it goes again with the, the, you know, showing the gay stuff and you're like, oh, okay. It just it's it's great. It doesn't it never goes where you think it necessarily is. Oh is that guy in the background with his arms crossed? I think he's the one that lets Sean pin on the elevator for the Christmas Adventures Club meeting. The first meeting, I think he's, like, in the background. He has a very recognizable face. Yeah. Here we go. Benny Safdie Danny Safdie, baby, director of the Smashing Machine. Yeah, to get that one in there, I had to he actually is, no bullshit side a I really believe his acting and and all. Oh, yeah. Stuff I've seen him in. Yeah, I mean, this Oppenheimer good to. I thought he was so impressive in good time. I did too. Yeah, and he just fits into this very well. Wax, wax. And they were kind of crying there about, you know, are you in a relationship? What's. You know, what's going on? Well, you know, my work is my relationship. Yeah. Oh, volunteer. Oh, yeah. This I love that first thing I have in Texas is great. I love that he's, like, a little off balance. Like, you know, it's not it's it's not really a Polish thing. It's great. It needn't need to be that way. Old school. Way to talk. I love it. And clearly she got all Gary and his 15 year old friends. Yeah, it has to do. And then they, you know it coming up. They mess up because. Right. And it's embarrassing for her. But yeah, she's trying to utilize the people she has. But again it's it's push and pull scene backs. Yeah. Hands on backs. Oh like loves this dress. Yeah. This. Now they're again back to the immaturity. Not really taking it seriously. Thing is though this happens all the fucking time. But she's just particular like yeah. It does. These things happen. I love that really. It's hilarious. That's what's funny. Those old film cameras, you can hear the film going, so when there's no more film, it's just going there. But you know, when there's film going, it's so I love that. Yeah. And then pinball, this is the next there's new thing that he hears. All year we were with a great man to do it all. You heard about was pinball. Yeah. Yeah. It was illegal because it. But for, gambling purposes. Stupid. Pinball? Yeah. Like in. Yeah, in real life, it was illegal for gambling for, like, decades. Just. And he kind of just said it. He's like, I do believe it's one of those outdated. So. And so this is the scene right here. Yeah. Because we've cut back to his house. So what I, what I'm pointing out in terms of like the acting is like both of these people are coming in like, loaded with emotion before it. He's got an idea about doing something. She doesn't like it. Yep. And then it all becomes about the keys. Yeah. And I love her switch of, like, when he gets them and she's like, it's fine. All right. Yeah. You know, she switches she because she runs like that. She runs hot cold. She might be mad. And then she'll change a little bit. And they get in here like. Yellow Gary Valentine I, I love that like anything he could say. Yeah. She'll get irritated. But then as soon as he shows a disinterest in her that flares her up of like, no, I'll drive you. It's fine. Yeah, yeah. Yep. Here it is. Yes, I am. God, he look and look at the way he gives it back to her to like he's standing his ground. Challenging. Challenging. Right back. Don't do it like don't you. It's hilarious. The time he takes. Oh this is just fantastic stuff right. Oh I love it. Now what interface. You threw up like a little bitch. Look at it. Oh. Yeah. I love that. Oh, I said milady. It just feels like a real friendship with real. You know, it's it's any. She's getting on anything. Oh. He has that hammer any time. Yeah. I will. Spend a little bit. She thinks she's missed. Yeah, but was. It. That's. Oh. I mean, they're just cutting each other right here. Yeah, and she's coming at him. Hilarious. And she means it to fix it. Yes. I need to get my life. There it is. That's true. That's like the truth for her. Yeah. She blocked him right there. Yeah. So he's going to find another way out. And now there it is. Yeah. As soon as he shows it I really don't need you like. Yeah. No. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Do not get in that car. Don't you get in that car I love it. She. And it's also like a fight about nothing, really. It was like. No, out of nowhere. It's just. It's stupid. But it's so and so realistic. So realistic. And it's built up. Yeah. And she can't really. I mean. It's just her truth is, like, she needs to get her life. You need to get my life together. And you're the best part of my life. But that I hate that because you're a kid. Because you're a kid? Yeah. Yes. It's all like just her reacting to herself. Yep. And this is like, for him. Like, you can see that in his face right there. Like, I've never been in a situation like that before in my life. Right. And did I handle it all right also. Holy shit. I'm driving. Yeah, exactly. All that. Oh, and another subverting thing. Like, we think we see this creepy guy and fuck you then. And we think he's, you know, going to be dangerous. And he's not the guy outside. Yeah. Oh, yeah. How is your, I know we're not supposed to talk about it, but how was your. What's it called, like? Not a vetting process with the Christmas Adventures Club going. Because I heard you're into in contention to join, but it's there. You're being vetted now. It's, you know, I mean, but you'll be a you will be a superior man. I'll be the best. Yeah, I'm already the best. Oh, okay. And that's why they're considering it. That's why they're considering. Yeah. And you know, you know, I'm not putting all my eggs in one basket. But I'm feel confident. Okay, good. I, I mean, I put in a good word that. Well, I don't know if that's, you know, Marty, a chapter president. What a fucking world. I love those guys. Oh, my God, I was trying to think of something Sean Penn says in that moment where, what would be a problem? Yeah. Like what would be a problem? What would it be? You know, what would you say? People say you're soft on immigration reform. I would say that they have no business on this planet. It is for that better. I think it's funniest movie. Yeah, I know, I agree. I do think one battle after another is is funniest. I've seen, every theme I haven't seen Boogie Nights are hard eight in a theater with people. Which is a bummer, I would love. I got almost had a chance to see Boogie Nights, but your timing didn't work out like Alamo played it. But you know, people have laughed the most at one battle. No question. But there's so much about it that's funny. Okay, it's going to be free. Pepsi? Is that Danielle? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I can tell her voice on it. Great voices. God, I love Haim. I've been in love with them. We haven't even really talked much about them since 2017. Yep. Fans of the pod will know that because we talk about it a lot. But for new listeners, yes we are. I fell in love in terms of our friendship. I fell in love with them first and then passing them off to you, and then you got it. You showed them to me. And then I took Taylor, friend of the pod about Taylor, to Madison Square Garden to see them in September. So from September to December they became his Spotify like number one, like in those three months, his number one for the whole year. Because he sent me a Spotify wrap wrapped. He became obsessed with like, every album. Yeah, he just went back and I mean, they're so good life. They're so good. But I mean really like album by album. Yeah. I do think Women in Music three is my favorite album. Yeah. It's tough. I mean, they're I love I quit, I mean, but then YouTube, I just, I just rediscovered that leaning on You song from them, just from wimpy, you know, with the guitar and and didn't that. Oh my God. And it's just so beautiful. But yeah, the steps Los Angeles steps like it's it's fantastic. Yeah. I think the steps is probably my favorite. It's my favorite song. No no no it's not no night. So long nights so long. It's my favorite song by them. And my favorite music video. The simplest music video. Yeah. To shot my favorite note that I have ever heard Danielle hit is toward the end of that song in that video. Oh my. I'm getting chills just talking about it. Yeah. The look on her face to the, in the mouth the way. Oh, my God, it's fucking brilliant. Go watch that music video, folks. UK has done a number of them with them, but that is the simplest. It's just a few shots. Shots don't really move. Oh my God, is it perfect? And is it the actual song on the album? I feel like it's life. No, they don't. That's actually weird because I think that live version is so much better than that album version. But no, on the album it's it's different because yeah, yeah, I think from the music video. I don't think so. No, I don't think it's from that I because that you can hear the crowd at the end of the yes music, I mean, I yeah, it's a different track from the album version. Like it wasn't just the album version put to a music video, I don't know, I wish we'll do it well after this is over. I don't know if you're saying the same thing. I'm saying that in the music video. That's them, like recorded live. And then on the album, it's it's different. Oh, so we are saying this, we are saying I yeah, I thought we are. That live music video is a capture of that live performance. Yes. Whereas mostly music videos, relationships for instance, I see sorry, I won't get away what you're saying. I believe they're singing live in that music video I believe. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. And but on the album it has like a kind of a crispness to it that is missing from the living thing. Yes. Yeah. So yeah, I'm glad we got there. It just doesn't take too long. Everyone to get their head folks, I love this. Mr.. Now he's smoking in the white suit. Mr.. Stressed out businessman. Man. I tried smoking when I was a kid. I like actively for like three days. I bought packs that was like, I'm becoming a cigaret smoker. Just because you want it to. Yeah. And then I couldn't get through it. I was like, this is disgusting. I feel like shit. Yeah. Fun trivia about me. Never had one. Never once under. Never drunk. Never. I've never smoked a cigaret. No interest there. No interest. No. Gross. Yeah. I think if you grew up with parents, who did you either, like, become a smoker or you kind of reject it? And I'm the, in the rejection. I mean, you know, hey, whatever. Do your thing. But it is never interested me. I have had nicotine, you know, and hookah everything. Yeah, yeah. Yes. The most addictive substance I've ever put, I mean. Oh, my God, it's fucking ridiculous. Box. So the side bites on the side I love it. You just, like, made this commitment here. Like I'm going to start start smoking. You end up can't fucking do it I love this year. Yeah it's true. Yeah yeah I love this yellow right there. Yeah. Just the the the silhouette of her I saw I sent you this, but I saw someone on one of the socials. Compare this to that shot from I think it's Mickey. Nicky. Like when he goes over there to try to hook up with the girl. Oh, yeah, one of them, because they have that. I think it's either a yellow or bright wall in the back. And I mean, I didn't put that together, but someone put it together. It was like, it has to be connected. No one. Oh, shit. Okay. I mean, there's I mean, there's a reason why this is yellow. Yeah. And so prominent center frame. Oh, God. What's this actor's name who plays his boyfriend. Is it Matt. It's not Matt Reeves, it's Matt something though. Right. So good. Not Matt Ross. He's in. No, he's from American Psycho. Matt Reeves is a director. We'll see in the credits. But that man director. Yeah we'll see it in the credits. But it's. And I don't want to look it up. But he's so good to like hurt. And now you're bringing this poor girl into this. It's just great. Well, you know, the the trick is, is, you know, when you're, when you're making a movie where you've got, like, these tiny little parts is that you got to knock them, like, not just the acting, but like the writing. Yeah. You have to make them meaningful. Absolutely. That's why one thing it's a common like Hollywood phrase. But, you know, we've said on the part that there really are no small parts like you can you can have a line and make that a memorable thing that people are quoting. You know. But yeah, right. I'll be writing helps with that. I love that he goes, he's not going to win. Yeah. No. And yet you think she's like, oh is this is we're actually kind of hitting on me. Ask me for a drink. Like, this sounds great. And it's just hunting for that opportunity. Yeah. Yeah. And it's funny because really ultimately it's like she tries all these things on the run. She goes, and then none of them really work. The only thing that ever actually just makes sense is Gary. Yeah. And she can be content and can be happy with it playing live. You know, when she's hanging out with him, if she doesn't decide to bust his chops too much, well, she just has to accept that. Exactly. Yeah. I always say check in him, make sure. Hello? See? I love her. She's so charming. Yeah, but I love this way. They kind of silent, silently communicate, like, go, like, go see her. And. Yeah. That's the, There's that spotlight again. Yeah. So go see her, buddy. Yeah. Do we have to spell it out? Yeah. Yeah. Great. Send that also just, you know, one shot from outside. Yeah. She's great. No coverage. Why do coverage. And now is this where Licorice Pizza actually is? They like where this set is. What do you mean? Like where the store in, like, Sherman Oaks is, is that where does this store still exist right now? No, no, no. Is that where they shot this scene? I always wondered why this doesn't look like it on the walls. Yeah. This is so great. Just a final little twist, because, like, she's always looking for that other thing. Like we're talking about. Then she realizes here, you know, there's the creepy guy. I love it. Yes. That's why I asked you here. I love Matt, whose last name I cannot remember just watching it all play off on him. Like, oh, I see what this is now. Oh, it's, his old friend. Yeah. He knows immediately. Yeah. And then she has to put it together. Hint. That you were, Oh, man. It's it's so emotionally full. Oh, yeah. And the way that he just staring chimes in right away when the waiter leaves and we see her mostly in the mirror. Yeah, yeah. Just being ignore. It's a great. It's so well written and played and even she looks far away. Yeah, I love that. Settle down. A lot has got a drink coming. Oh. She goes, I'm tired here, but I'm tired. Yeah. We're putting it together, and he's just been out of focus. It's great. Yeah, it's not even. It's not even in the shot. Right? Oh, you mean Matt is. Yeah, yeah, it's out of focus. Your focus? Yeah. Love is the subject, but yeah, Benny's not even in frame. And then they'll get their close ups. And that's why he's out of focus. Yeah, that's why he's out of focus. And yeah, we're figuring it out with her. This is great. Oh it is heartbreaking. Yeah. And this is a very authentic argument between lovers. Like, it just is like, I don't care what gender it is. Yeah, yeah, you can absolutely believe this. And trying to, like, play it down low because you're in public. Oh, yeah. Who's that guy? Yes. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. There it is. I love that, and the way he kind of gets emotional, Matt Chuckling yeah you're a real piece of work. So so I'm going home. You'll be yeah. Will you be coming there. And I love what she drops above. Like is he a shit. Yeah. They're all shit. It's a great scene. Communicates so much. Oh, there it is. No. Oh, yeah. Oh. All appearances. I wish I could remember his last name. Son of a gun. We'll find it. I know, I know it. I love the sideburns, too. Great touch. Oh, yeah. There he is. Wax alone. It was going to go up with that Jack. This is such a little. Yeah, it's such a sweet scene. Man, is he a shit. I love that they're all shit. They're all shit. And. Perfect. In silhouette again. It's just going to be one shot. It's, such confident directing without being flashy. Love that. For that entire Oscar season, you were like, it's a lock. He's going to win picture and director said that on the part a gazillion times. Licorice pizza is going to win picture. And right now you're doing the same shit to me was one battle that's going to oh my fucking heart. If it doesn't win anything, I would just it would. I want PTA to have an Oscar. Same thing I said last year about Sean Baker. Like it can be screenplay, it can be producer, it can be director. I think he produced licorice. Yeah, he probably hurt one bad. Listen, man, it's a lock. But which one? PTA director, best picture. All right, one bad here, folks. Market here, market here, folks. And I have to win something else happening. Just going to win, picture director. So it has to win something else. We had competition last year editing. Oh, that would be a fucking joy. God, I would love that cinematography I, Sean Penn, I, screenplay I don't think it's going to win screenplay. I think they're going to give that to sinners. Well no, no, no. It's different. Sinners is original. I sort of battles adapted. Yeah, yeah. So Hamnet will be there. I imagine so, yeah. We'll see. Maybe on the wrong person ask about this because I'm like, there's no way honor is going to win for and then ended up winning five for, for one person. And I'm like, well, that was even I mean, I said a lot about a few things and that that even overtook it. I was like, yeah, that was a fucking doozy. No, I think, I think, I think editing makes sense. But then I think they I think you got to, you got to divvy up all those other awards to some of the other efforts of the year. Yeah. I mean that's epic. Yeah. That happens. It wouldn't be a grand sweep or anything. Or maybe it will. I can't even entertain that. We're still a little early for me, nominations are only about a month and a half away. Get ready everyone, because that episode's coming. Damn right. The end of our fiscal season. Everybody gearing up towards the Oscars? Yeah, it's basically because that's kind of how this pod started. It was like Oscar season. Yep. I don't know. Look at that guy I know. Jesus Christ, he's just fucking. He looks like a guy I used to work with. And I often wonder if that's him. And he was an extra, so. Jesus, it'd be a good booking. Yeah. He had lines. Yeah. No. God, it didn't come. I love this guy. Just running all over the valley trying to find him, and then he's running. I love this part. Running opposite directions in the frame. It's great. The sweet music swelling up. Yeah. Because at the end of the day, he does all these things for this life. But nothing really matters if she's not there. And she's trying so hard to work out her life. He's the only thing that makes sense. Age be damned. I love how in Phantom on the Phantom Thread, you were like, yeah, there's no way that stuff at the end you would make you go, no, those aren't flash forwards. Like they don't have a kid. They don't make it at all. They don't get married. I mean, they are married, but they don't last. And with this, you're like, yeah, they grew up to get married. Yes. No. Yes. I think this is a fun summer. They had. No, this is more than a summer. I all right. These are soulmates. What about an aged woodcock in his. What? What are you talking about? That's a pure love. That's. You gotta fucking poison me to know. I think they last two. I think they last. Well, that's. You didn't say that on that podcast. Made me look like an idiot. Well, having the only then not to know Roger Moore. Oh, slid that one in there, didn't you? Oh my God. And then, you know, where's the movie going? What's our big conclusion? We don't I love this shit. Just go shut up. Oh, Jesus. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Idiot. Idiot. Yeah. Gary and Alana. Yeah. This is this right here. Most controversial thing to ever happen in a movie and all of cinema. Just relax. It's cool. It's. And the kind of feels like a new beginning, which I always like. And I love how soft and sweet that was. And there it is. It is, it's there it is. We're out. It's lovely. Yeah, it's very lovely. I love that movie. Font choice and color and it's so sweet. Here we go. It's it's by far like PTA is just. It's his love letter to La Guiler. There's just something, you know, and this I'm going to use this word. It's very pure. Yeah. I don't care with those. No, it absolutely is. It's it's not meant to be. It's like. Like she's not grooming him. No. Like there's nothing like that. Oh she's lost and confused and they just happened to see that that one deleted scene with that. Yeah. We're going to find him. Where is he? Matt. Matt? Matt. Matt I mentioned that. Matt. Matt. Ross. Matt. Reeves. Matt. Matt. Joe. You were so wrong because I was I was wrong because his character name is Matthew. In your face. You didn't fucking know it. You didn't know. But Donna, Marty Spielberg. Okay, so that was her Frisbee in the bathroom. Okay, Emma. Two months, a month. I love picture credits. Oh, yeah. They're the way itself. They used to be more of a thing, like back in. That predator has them, you know, they used. I just I always liked them. Cool way to. You know, I think it's nice. The name. Yeah, I think Colin er, has them. Hirsch. I wonder if that's Natalie Portman's like. Oh, like, someone in their family. Oh, interesting. Because that's Natalie's last name. Yeah. Great shot. Just to take us out. Oh, that was a lot of fun. I mean, it's it's just a fun. We were just sitting here hanging out and watching it. That's how. That's how you do it. It's just it's just I. I just don't think this is a movie that was meant to be taken seriously. No, not at all. In, in, in any sort of way other than, you know, PTA is a director that has the career and reputation that he has. And I think he just wanted to make something sweet and light. Yep. And he got crucified. I, I honestly think it was it had to have been like a huge shock and just a huge blow because, I mean, he's done in Boogie Nights. Roller girl is in high school like she's in high school and she is a porn star having sex and I didn't hear anyone flipping out about that. I mean, I was younger, but, you know, it's just because, well, yeah, I mean, we know why. We know that our culture change and stuff. But to put your eye, you know, what you're saying, let's focus on that. I felt was an argument that I make to that though is like he hasn't changed because like the thing is, it's like, yes, that's true. That's what happened. But that's what was happening back in the time of the 70s. Yeah. That movie. Exactly. So when you talk about like the 70s and these like stories like this were not uncommon. Yeah. And and that's all that it is. It's not like I have a story that I want to tell for a specific reason, because I have an interest in a 28 year old, right? Engaging in social and romantic situations with a 15 year old. It's like, no, this is how things went back then. I'm having like a bit of a love letter to my my youth and my city that I grew up in. Yeah, and that's it. Joseph Cross whoops. Joseph. Yeah. I just hope, you know, for listeners that this is just yeah, people probably seen it before, but just encourage them to kind of, you know, look at it with a slightly different you and I, we have always been very outspoken about the movie on this podcast. And just it's a fun hangout movie. Well, and also to I mean, you have to recognize like in the world of cinema, like art, it it takes so many forms and there's so many movies that do embrace the actual thing that people, complained about this movie. Yeah. In ways that are, actually controversial. Yeah. They deserve to be ridiculed. Exactly. Or there's movies that go hard in terms of defending all this. And, you know, it's a very, very wide world of cinema. And it's just that our current American audiences today love to latch on to anything that can. Yeah, be offensive or, not taboo and then just run with it. And then if you're the creator of it, I mean, when when that happened, PTA just went silent. Yeah, he didn't say that wisely. It's like, don't don't engage. Do not engage. Don't poke the bear. Just just let it all pass. And now everyone's forgotten about Licorice Pizza. Because one day I left another. Just come around. Yeah. And in the trailer he has. It's not even a non-binary joke. He's just like, now, is he? She or he or are they? And, you know, chase off and he's like, she's non-binary today. And he goes, all right, I just want to be polite, you know? So now he's like putting it in there like, you know, and he's also not like like he's also like not hiding from it too, because he's like, what's up, homie? Yeah, exactly. Exactly. You know, being a 50 year old white man. Yeah. Talking inappropriately to the I mean but that's not you get back in the fucking car I say yes Jesus. I love when he gives her the hug and he gives her like the one. Yeah. The single pat on the back and said, I mean, if it wins Best Picture, I'm in. You know, I did the this podcast is done Oppenheimer and another commentary. So we're going to we're going to see if it I don't know. We're going to fucking see that's a lot. It would be three years in a row. My favorite movie the year winning Best Picture. That's that's insane. I don't know I don't know I'm not getting there. I'm not getting that far ahead. Hey, Marty Supreme is still coming, so it might not be your favorite movie of the year. That's funny. That's fucking hilarious. I still haven't seen J. Kelly either. Wow. Or, was the animated one we were talking about today or Utopia two. So, Toby, you two, I could see that it might change. Avatar three. Avatar three changed my whole world. We we we we are fans of avatar two in this podcast. Oh, yeah. I'm not shutting it down. You know, I'm going to see. But we gotta end this before the credits end. We do. Thank you everyone.
